"Ciao" is the first episode of the second season of The White Lotus. It is the seventh episode of the series overall. It was released on October 30, 2022 on HBO and HBO Max. It was written and directed by Mike White.
Synopsis[]
On a couples’ trip in Sicily, Harper, Ethan, Daphne, and Cameron spend an awkward first day sizing each other up. As Tanya arrives with her new assistant Portia, Dominic fields questions from his father Bert about his wife’s absence, while his son Albie plays neutral. Meanwhile, hotel manager Valentina tries to keep locals Mia and Lucia out of her establishment.
Plot Summary[]
The White Lotus in Taormina, Sicily, becomes a grim scene as multiple guests' bodies are discovered on a nearby beach. Just a week before, a diverse group of visitors checks in, with Valentina, the brisk manager, welcoming them. Among them is Tanya and Greg, previous White Lotus guests. They start to fight. Greg is upset when he learns Tanya brought her assistant Portia along for the retreat. To pacify him while retaining Portia's services, Tanya instructs Portia to remain hidden in her room.
Portia's is confused but agrees. She ends up meeting Albie Di Grasso, a recent Stanford graduate exploring his Sicilian heritage with his father Dominic, a failing Hollywood producer, and his womanizing grandfather Bert.
Meanwhile, married couple Ethan and Harper Spiller, along with Ethan's former college roommate Cameron Sullivan and his wife Daphne, embark on a trip to Sicily. Harper's skepticism of Cameron and Daphne's over-the-top affection grows as they settle in. Amidst the unfolding dynamics, Lucia, a local sex worker, clandestinely infiltrates the resort with her friend Mia to meet her new client, Dominic.
